What Happens After You Apply for Medicaid?

Once you complete an application for GMWD Medicaid, a GMWD eligibility specialist will review your application. The specialist will contact you by telephone or mail if additional information is needed.

You will find out if you are eligible for Medicaid within 45 days after you apply. You will receive a letter in the mail telling you whether or not you are eligible. (If you are disabled and your disability has to be determined, the process may take up to 90 days).

If you are eligible for Medicaid, you will receive a Medicaid card shortly after the eligibility determination is made. Because the Medicaid card will be mailed to you, it is very important that you update your new address on-line, whenever you move or let the specialist know so that your correspondence will get to the right address.
